Ideas for a Romantic UK Staycation

This is collaborative post with Voyage Privé.

The staycation has been growing in popularity over recent years, with more and more of us opting to spend our holidays at home in the UK. Uncertainty over Brexit and currency fluctuations have added to this trend, as has the increase in environmental awareness, with increasing numbers of us looking for more sustainable holiday options and to take less flights.

A romantic staycation is the perfect opportunity to spend some quality time with your partner, relax and recharge your batteries. Luckily, the UK has a wealth of gorgeously romantic destinations, that are just perfect for a couples only getaway.

Luxury Country Hotel

You might think that if you want the glamour of a country hotel, you’re going to have to pay for it. Well not necessarily. The Voyage Privé website has some amazing deals on their collection of stunning De Vere Country Estates hotels. You get all the luxury, like golf and spa facilities, flat screen television and high end dining, for less than you’d think. Their De Vere hotels are situated in some of the most picturesque locations in the UK, with plenty of unspoiled countryside ready to be explored. A country hotel break is a perfect way to spoil each other and enjoy a romantic staycation.

Stargazing

What could be more romantic than looking up at the night sky and gazing at the stars with your loved one right next to you. There are many places in the UK that are great for stargazing, but my pick would be Northumberland. Not only is it home to some of the most stunningly rugged and wild scenery in the UK, it is also home to the Kielder Observatory. It boosts one of the largest areas of protected night sky in Europe, meaning it is the perfect place to observe the stars in all their glory.

Stars of the Screen

For another idea, why not treat your loved one to a romantic staycation in the location of their favourite film or television series. It’s thoughtful and shows that you really know your partner, a great way to earn some brownie points! For example, maybe Poldark’s Cornwall, Barry Island of Gavin and Stacey fame, or even a trip to Cheshire to visit Lyme Park, the backdrop to the famous lake scene featuring a certain Colin Firth in the BBC’s Pride and Prejudice.

The Isle of Skye

If you’re looking for secluded spots and stunningly beautiful scenery, Scotland has it in spades. The Isle of Skye is particularly stunning and a great place for a romantic UK staycation. Not only it is rugged and still relatively quiet, it’s home to the eerily beautiful Fairy Pools, a series of clear blue rock pools and small waterfalls that make a great spot for a spot of wild swimming or a picnic.

The City of Bath

The city of Roman city of Bath is a designated World Heritage site, and it makes the perfect location for a romantic staycation. It has something for everyone! Whether you’re into history and culture, shopping and fine dining, or relaxing, Bath is ideal. The city centre has its fair share of restaurants and boutiques to explore, while the famous Thermae Bath Spa is the perfect place to relax and unwind. Bath is also in the ideal location to visit some of the most picturesque areas of England, including the countryside of the Cotswolds, Wiltshire and beyond.
