A Quick Catch Up…

A Quick Catch Up…

Well haven’t the last few months been strange! I haven’t posted anything personal or about what we’ve been up to for a while, so grab a cuppa, have a sit down and let’s have a quick catch up.

Since the UK entered lockdown back in March, I have completely neglected my blog. Firstly, this was due to a lack of time as I now found myself working, homeschooling and looking after a toddler. It was incredibly hard to balance everything and I found life very overwhelming and stressful for a while. I also wasn’t in a great frame of mind as after the long, wet winter we’d had, I had planned some great trips for this Spring and Summer that we had to cancel. I know it’s a first world problem, but we had all been so excited about going to the Lake District, Devon, the Cotswolds and our summer holiday in Portugal (only 7 years since my last foreign beach holiday-sob).

Secondly, the whole purpose of this blog is to inspire and encourage people to head outdoors and I didn’t feel I could do that while it wasn’t safe. Even discussing future plans felt like I might have been contravening official advice, so I decided to not post anything new for a while.

Like everyone else, we’ve spent a lot of time in the garden lately

To be honest I didn’t even have much to post! I wasn’t feeling very inspired or motivated, and I’m not sure anyone would have been interested in our daily walk round the local park.

I knew that my viewing figures would suffer, but I’ve had blogging breaks before and been able to get it back with a bit of hard work.

So imagine my surprise, when I logged on this week to see that in fact my site has been getting lots of hits. Specifically, my local content, like my Top 5 Northamptonshire Walks post, have been VERY popular recently. This has led me to create a new category, if you look up you can see I have grouped all of my local content together so it’s easy to find.

We’ve been so grateful for our outside space over the last few months

Looking Forward

Given the popularity of my Northamptonshire content, and the fact that more of us are going to be staying local and travelling within the UK this year, I am going to focus on producing lots of new, good quality local content. I’m going back to basics and doing what I do best, inspiring everyone to explore their local area and get outside.

I have just renewed my membership to OS Maps (affiliate link), so I can get stuck into researching and planning some new walking routes. If you haven’t used OS Maps before, I have a guide here.

We have rescheduled our Cotswolds camping trip for August, and I am currently planning another camping trip for the summer holidays (fingers crossed we get to go away-we are desperate to be camping!) Providing these trips happen, I also plan to produce more camping posts, especially some new recipes.

I hope that you are all well, and have managed to survive the last few months. I would love to hear how your are and what you’re up to, so feel free to leave a comment below, or contact me on Facebook.

Welcome back! I felt the same about posting walks and trips so I know what you mean. I hope you get some trips in – fingers crossed for camp sites opening again soon.
