Pecorama: The best toddler day out ever?

Pecorama: The best toddler day out ever?

Our toddler may have a limited vocabulary, but he has very firm opinions about pretty much everything. If he had to choose his ideal day out it would feature a ‘choo choo’, a ‘big park’, ice cream and soft play. Happily, all of these things, and more, can be found at Pecorama in Beer, East Devon.

Situated high above the village of Beer, Pecorama boasts impressive gardens and sea views

Pecorama is the home of PECO, the renowned manufacturer of model railway track, it also houses an exhibition, shop, inside and outdoor play areas and extensive gardens with views out to the sea. However the highlight for us, and I suspect many others, is the Beer Heights Light Railway.

A ride on the light railway is included in the entrance price

A ride on the train was a a lovely treat (photo from https://www.facebook.com/pecorama)

We spent a couple of hours at Pecorama, and could have easily been there longer. We missed out the shop and exhibition as we’re more interested in the outdoor attractions, plus I didn’t think that our two year old would be that bothered. However, we did enjoy strolling around the gardens and exploring the play areas.

There was something quite old fashioned about Pecorama, and I liked it all the more for that!

Pecorama features some great outdoor play areas

Finn was in his element exploring Pecorama

After spotting it during the train ride, I was keen to head over to Wildway, the nature garden, but we didn’t make it as there was so much else to cram in to our visit. Situated on the other side of the main car park, this offers a change of scene from the more formal gardens, and features a bug hotel and pond. There is also a zip wire here for older children.

We debated whether we could possibly manage a round of crazy golf, but decided against it! That’s definitely one for when Finn is a little older. We did, however, have to make a detour to the indoor soft play station. There was no way of sneaking past once it had been spotted.  As much as I hate those places, it did give us the chance to have a sit down and a breather.

Pecorama really is a toddler’s paradise

All in all we had a great time at Pecorama. It definitely is most suited to toddlers and younger children, and of course model railway enthusiasts. It offers a good value family day out and plays host to many special events throughout the year. (Top tip: by booking online you can save 10% on ticket prices).

I would have no hesitation visiting again and I’m laying down the gauntlet here; is there a more perfect toddler day out than Pecorama? Let me know in the comments below.

We were given two free adult tickets for the purposes of this review (under 3s go free), all opinions are my own.

That is a cute little train and I know just how popular train rides are as we have one that runs daily here at Coombe Mill. The location of Pecorama next to the sea and those lovely play areas make it look very toddler friendly. I can see why you had such a great time there.

We visited here at the end of my 2nd maternity leave – with a 2 year old and 9 month old. It was such a great place for little ones. Wish we lived close to it as that soft play would keep them entertained for hours!

Oh wow – this has every single one of the elements for a good day out with a toddler! I can see why you (and Finn) loved it. Those views are really impressive too. A great place for a family day out!

This isn’t far from me so will have to visit it next time we’re in Devon. Looks like its value for money too, which can be difficult with a toddler thats not quite running or climbing very high things yet. My little one would love the train ride! #daysoutwithatoddler
