Review: Merrell Moab FST Mid Gore-Tex Boots

Review: Merrell Moab FST Mid Gore-Tex Boots

It’s undeniably a perk of being an outdoor blogger that I  get to try out some fantastic kit. The recently launched Moab FST Mid Gore-Tex boots from Merrell (RRP £130) are no exception and I didn’t need asking twice to give them a go.

I got my usual size and they fitted perfectly, with enough room for a thick pair of socks. I immediately loved the look of the boots, particularly the vivid colour. I tried out the ‘Beet Red’ boots, but they also come in ‘Boulder’ (brown with a bit of pink) and ‘Granite’ versions. As well as the mid- boot option, which I tried, there is also a shoe version.

So they look great but how do they perform? Well, I’ve worn these boots pretty much continuously since I got them about a few weeks ago, and they have been fantastic. I love the fact that they were comfortable from the moment I put them on.

I particularly liked how well supported my feel felt, yet these boots are very light. I have worn them on a few walks, where the ‘Vibram Megagrip Outsole’ and 5mm tread depth comes into its own, providing lots of grip across different terrains. The sporty aesthetics also mean that they are just as great for wearing to the park. As they are light and look so good, I even wore them for a full shift at work (shop/warehouse environment) and after 9 hours on my feet they were still comfy.

I think that the main advantage of the Merrell Moab FST Mid boots is their versatility. The breathable lining and their lightness, makes them a great option for summer hiking (and pootling about on shorter walks). Yet their ruggedness and durability, plus the GORE-TEX waterproof membrane means that they are just as good for winter outings.

As an aside, I liked the fact that I could drive in these (as long as they’re not too muddy!), which is not always the case with some of my heavier boots.

I can’t wait to test them out in tougher conditions. We’re heading back to the Lakes in a couple of weeks so I will add an update to this review.

Interesting. Are they quite wide across the toe/ball of foot area? I tried on a pair of the Grassbow boots the other day – very light! Not sure how these compare. Maybe I’ll try to find a pair and give them a go, too.

They are quite wide, I found them really comfy. The Grassbow look good too, think they are a bit lighter than the Moab though.

Love the colour! My hiking boots are a similar pinky colour but they are not as good quality as these ones.

I know everyone is saying they love the colour….but I do love the colour! The grips look great too, the slightest bit of mud and I tend to slip over.

Do they have a high arch, or is it somewhat flat? Thanks!

What about their grip? Was it good on loose gravel and steep slopes? And are they breathable?

The grip is really good on these. They are my favourite boots and I still wear them a lot, they are great on all terrain and breathable.
