Glenfinnan Monument and Viaduct

As you may have noticed, I do like to save money at any opportunity, so imagine how pleased I was that we could use our National Trust membership in Scotland!

The Glenfinnan Monument and the visitor centre is run by the National Trust for Scotland and commemorates the beginning of the Jacobite rising when Bonnie Prince Charlie raised his standard on the shores of Loch Shiel. Today you can climb to the top of the monument (not advised if you don’t like heights or small spaces) and take in the beautiful views of the Loch and the Glenfinnan Viaduct (of Harry Potter fame).

After admiring the views from the top, we climbed the hill by the car park (from where the photo below was taken) to get some more pictures.

We then walked down the road to get closer to the impressive viaduct. We had originally planned to get the train over, but reasoned that we would get better views if we weren’t actually on the viaduct!

I think it’s safe to say that the Scottish scenery was everything we had hoped for…and more!
We plan on returning to Scotland, so where should we head next time?
