The Best UK Campsites as Chosen by Outdoor Bloggers

The Best UK Campsites as Chosen by Outdoor Bloggers

As peak camping season is upon us, I thought it was a good opportunity to put together a list of the best UK campsites (and a bonus one in France!). I decided the best way to compile my list was to ask my fellow outdoor bloggers for their recommendations, after all, if anyone is going to know the best UK campsites, it’s going to be a crack squad of bloggers.

Straight in with a new glamping site, Cledan Valley, Joey from Cool of the Wild was converted after a memorable experience.

With plenty of space and just seven accommodations, Cledan Valley is the perfect place for a tranquil break

“So as a ‘rough it’ type camper, did I enjoy glamping at Cledan Valley? I absolutely loved it and would go again in a heartbeat. I may even go as far as saying that I’m a glamping convert!”

Shell from Camping with Style “can’t get enough of the stunning Welsh coastal campsite, Cae Du Farm. Perched on the edge of a cliff,  this chilled out, wild feeling camp site affords stunning views of over Cardigan Bay, where we regularly watch dolphins and seals swim by. Not recommended for very young children, campfires are encouraged and this is still our favourite campsite in the UK!”

With views like this, we can see why Cae du Farm is a favourite of Camping with Style.

Elliott from See Outside has opted for Treheli Farm near Abersoch as one of the best UK campsites. “Located a few miles away from the crowds of Abersoch and overlooking Hell’s Mouth, Treheli Farm is idyllic. Unspoilt views, relaxed rules and a sense of wild camping makes this site my go-to when surfing at Hells. The facilities are very basic so be prepared!”

If you are prepared to forgo facilities in exchange for peace and idyllic views then Treheli Farm could be your dream campsite Waking up with this view makes Treheli special a favourite for Elliott

Rob from Active Outdoors has nominated The Orchards on the Isle of Wight as one of the best UK campsites. “Defined serviced pitches with wifi, indoor and outdoor pools, amazing views and ferry discount package”

David from Potty Adventures has found a gem on the Llyn Peninsula. “We love Aberafon for family camping trips. Sea view pitches, campfires allowed on the beach, mountains to explore behind you and lovely friendly owners.”

Wales seems to feature pretty frequently in this list of the best UK campsites, and it isn’t hard to see why!

Sarah from Kippers and Curtains has gone for the glamping option. “Hale Farm in East Sussex is great. You can pitch your own or glamp in a yurt or shepherd’s hut – they also have a new bell tent village called Canvas and Stars. The farm is beautiful and you can go and feed the animals in the morning, plus a gin van comes to visit some evenings.”

Animals to keep the kids occupied and gin for the adults, what’s not to like?

Lizzie from Lizzie Running has a soft spot for one of our favourite campsites, Upper Booth Farm near Edale in the Peak District. “A basic campsite tucked under Kinder Scout with good, clean facilities and fabulous views in every direction. There is loads of space for kids to run around and a stream to play in, plus the Hope Valley has loads to do for outdoorsy families.”

Upper Booth is situated right on the Pennine Way, so perfect for walkers and outdoor enthusiasts

Gareth has provided a couple of choices, including our only foreign entry. First, he choose Little Meadow in North Devon. “Little Meadow was a great find. Stayed here and loved it. With beautiful cliff top views for stunning sunsets and even during bad weather, it was a great experience. Add in a good coastal walk and it doesn’t get much better.” Secondly, he threw Bot Conan Lodge in Brittany, France into the mix. Look out for his write up coming soon.

Brittany is a beautiful part of the world, could be a great choice if you’re looking for a camping adventure a bit further from home

Layney from Oh SO Glamping has also gone for a Devon campsite. “We love Kingsmead Centre in Devon. They are so relaxed, great bathrooms facilities and allow campfires.”

Beki from Miss Wheezy has picked out a couple of her best UK campsites and they both look brilliant. Firstly  Nunnington Farm in West Wittering, “which is a fantastic place and I would highly recommend it…The campsite is a family business, and has a lovely little farm which every morning offered children the opportunity to go over and feed the animals.” Or if you fancy a little luxury, the log pods at Beanhill Farm in the Forest of Dean offer a great escape.  “I’d definitely recommend Beanhill Farm – the owners were friendly and even offer breakfast boxes of supplies, or will cook you a bacon sandwich themselves if you like!”

Lucy from Paddle Pedal Pace was a camping convert after a stay at Haw Wood Farm in Suffolk so it must be good! “The campsite was very peaceful and well maintained, with a luxury toilet and shower block. I was seriously impressed by the facilities! We had a large plot of land with an electric hook up, which was surrounded by meadows.”

Good facilities and lots of space can make all the difference on a camping holiday

More votes for Wales from Tess from FitBits who has picked out the “spectacular” Cae Gwyn near Coed y Brenin mountain bike trail centre.

This “amazing” campsite next to Coed y Brenin Forest features stunning views

Tess also recommends Cwmnanthir Brecon Beacons camping “We wanted a small, quiet campsite that we could chill at after a hard day of activities, and we weren’t disappointed. The campsite is run by a lovely Welsh family who welcome everyone into what is essentially their back garden to enjoy the beautiful countryside”

Wales has come up trumps again with this fantastic campsite

Finally, Emma from Bubba Blue and Me loved Warcombe Farm Campsite in Woolacombe. “It’s great for family camping, brilliant shower blocks, great play area, gorgeous sunset and each evening a different themed takeaway joint if you don’t want to cook. They’ll also let you pitch together in a group and there s a lovely walk along to the coast.”

The sunsets are beautiful at Warcombe

I haven’t actually told you what I think is the best UK campsite. I’ve thought long and hard and, in my mind, there can only be one winner. Coalasnacon Caravan and Campsite is, not only the most beautiful campsite, but actually the most  stunning place I’ve ever been. The views are extraordinary and it was so laid back. You could pitch wherever you wanted right by the edge of the loch. Just maybe don’t go in the height of summer (unless you want to be eaten by midges!). We’re planning an autumn trip back there soon.

This is the best view I’ve ever had from a tent!

I want to say a massive thank you to all of the bloggers that participated in this post and shared their best UK campsites and their photos with me. It was great to get some insider tips and make some new discoveries. Hopefully it has given you some ideas for your next camping trip.

What do you think are the best UK campsites?

What an interesting and useful list. Can you believe that we have NEVER been camping in Great Britain? Finding a suitable campsite is part of the problem, so this is really a great help for us. Upper Booth Farm in the Peak District looks like a great find, and I never knew that a “gin van” was a thing before… (actually, I’m still slightly confused: is it a van that brings gin or is something lost in translation here? 😉 ). Thanks and greetings from Luxembourg #AdventureCalling

What a wonderfully useful post! I love camping and we used to go quite a bit when the children were younger. The sites were very varied so it’s great to have a look at sites recommended by others. Sorry I took a long time to comment’ it’s been a crazily busy month! #adventurecalling

What an amazing collection of campsites. Makes me want to get up and go.
I think ‘our’ campsite in the south of France is pretty special and it’s right on the beach overlooking the Pyrénées in the distance.

Congratulations on the new job and your pregnancy too xx
