Two Short Ullswater Walks

Two Short Ullswater Walks

We enjoyed a couple of lovely short Ullswater walks and even managed to make good use of our National Trust membership at the same time!

For our first outing we drove around to Patterdale and parked opposite The Patterdale Hotel. We took the footpath to Side Farm (and their picturesque campsite) and then headed left alongside Ullswater.

We continued towards Silver Point before heading back around Silver Crag. It was a lovely short walk with great views across the water.

As I mentioned, we made good use of our NT membership on this trip. Not least by using the car park at Glencoyne Bay, which offered some great views across the lake.

It also made a good start/finish point for walking. For our second walk we headed out on a 5.5 mile circular walk around Glenridding. We started by turning right out of the carpark and walking along the road a short while until we reached the footpath on the right hand side. We followed the path through Glencoyne Farm and past the Seldom Seen cottages that were once home to the miners who extracted lead and silver ore from these hills. We carried on in the shadow of Sheffield Pike until we reached the disused quarry. We then took the path down to Glenridding, passing the youth hostel on our way. This was a good short walk with a short climb and impressive views over Ullswater.
