Liebster Award

Liebster Award

A couple of weeks ago I got an amazing email from the Corey at fifi + hop nominating me for a Liebster Award. It really made my day! As much as I love blogging, it’s still very much a hobby for me and it still surprises me when people compliment my work. In fact, I still can’t quite believe that anyone other than my mum reads The Helpful Hiker!

I had heard of the Liebster Award, but I wasn’t quite sure of the rules. I found out that a Liebster is awarded to up and coming bloggers by previous winners as a way of recognizing and supporting fellow blogs. I think that the official definition of ‘up and coming’ is those with less than 200 followers, although there’s a bit of leeway. I think the premise is primarily to reward lesser known blogs (that’s how I have interpreted it in my nominations, as well as highlighting blogs that I have recently discovered).

Once you have been nominated (and have accepted) you must write a post thanking the person that nominated you, and then answer the questions that they set you.

In turn you then nominate up to 11 bloggers and set them 11 questions to answer and the chain continues!

Here are Corey’s questions and my answers.

  • How did you get into blogging?

In 2013 we started going on camping holidays and doing lots of walking. My Fiance takes amazing photos and I wanted a way of remembering where we had been and when. It primarily started as a way of documenting our walks and grew from there!

  • Where do you write your blog posts?

Usually sat at the computer in our living room between drinking tea and wrangling an unruly toddler (who more often than not is desperately trying to get hold of my mouse!)

  • What is your favorite place to go to in or around your home town/city?

My favourite place in my home town is Abington Park. We go there so much, I love how different it looks with the changing seasons.

  • What is your favorite place you’ve been to abroad?

This is a tricky one! I’m going to say my parent’s farm in Normandy. It’s so peaceful and relaxing over there. I’m looking forward to spending time there with Finn as he gets older and can run about and enjoy the space.

  • What other hobby(ies) besides traveling do you enjoy?

I have worked in the wine trade for the last decade and so I’m a bit of  a wine fan. (Also partial to a good ale and gin, in fact most alcohol is fine by me!) I’m also a bit of a foodie. I love cooking, eating out and trying new things.

  • What has been your worst travel “mishap”?

I can’t think of anything too awful. Last year when Finn was 3 months old we visited my parents and got caught up in a strike and so the ferry was delayed and we ended up in a different port. Luckily, he was a very easy baby, but it wasn’t much fun! It also wasn’t much fun when he had a sickness bug during our trip to Wales a few weeks ago. One thing I have learnt travelling with a baby is that there really is no such thing as too may wet wipes.

  • What is your favorite cuisine?

I love a good curry, but I think my absolute favourite is tapas. I lived in Spain for a bit when I was a student and loved the whole drinking and eating culture there. Very civilised!

  • Ocean or Mountains?

That’s an easy one-got to be mountains!

  • Do you plan all your trips out or do you like to be spontaneous?

A bit of both. I don’t have a lot of free time so I generally just nip off as and when I can. For longer trips I enjoy taking the time to plan them properly so we make the most of it.

  • Overpacker or underpacker?

Definitely an overpacker! This is compounded as we usually just chuck everything in the car when we go off camping. We got a bigger car when Finn was born, but we may have to upgrade again soon! Also, wherever we go I like to be prepared for every eventuality.

  • Top of the bucket list?

So many places! Hopefully going to tick off Northumberland this summer, I would also love to do some hiking in Scandanavia.  But top of the list is Iceland- would love to see the Northern lights and ride an Icelandic pony.

Here are my questions:

Where is your favourite place to go for a walk?

Luxury traveller or back to basics?

Best ever holiday/travel experience?

Sun or snow?

The best thing about your hometown?

Favourite photo?

Proudest accomplishment?

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Why did you start a blog?

Best piece of blogging advice you’ve ever heard?

If you won the lottery today, what would be the first thing you do?

Here are my nominations:

The Wild Rambler

Not Just Phoebe

Coellefornia.me

Slovenian Girl Abroad

Who would you nominate for a Liebster and why?

liebster

Loved reading your answers – funny I was a student and lived in Spain too, in Madrid. Will always have a piece of my heart. Look forward to checking out the blogs you nominated:).

I lived in a town just south of Madrid so went there quite a lot. I know what you mean, I’ll always love Spain. Thanks for getting me involved, it was great fun answering your questions 🙂

Thank you so much the nomination! Again 😉 I’m thinking about what blogs to nominate… Many of the blogs I follow already received the award. I might only come up with 4-5 blogs like you, but that’s ok, right? Hope you’ll get all the camping stuff that’s on your wishlist!

That’s ok! Lots of the blogs I read have already been nominated so it was quite difficult finding some to nominate. Just as many – or few- as you want. I hope I get all that new camping gear. We’re getting married next week so if we get any cash presents I might spend it on a new tent!

Oh wow, that’s wonderful, congratulations!!! I’m impressed that you still take time to work on your blog, there must be so many other things you’re preoccupied with! Enjoy the anticipation! And my best wishes!!
