Go Ape at Woburn Safari Park

Go Ape at Woburn Safari Park

I was recently approached by Go Ape to see if I fancied giving their Treetop Adventure a try. To be honest my first reaction was ‘yes, that sounds fun!’ followed swiftly by ‘um, actually I’m not sure’. It’s one of those things that I’ve always wanted to have a go at, while being slightly dubious about my ability to deal with heights and ropes and anything involving coordination!

There are rope bridges aplenty to traverse at Go Ape

After a little deliberation, both me and Luke decided that it could be a lot of fun, so we headed off to our nearest Go Ape at Woburn Safari Park. If you’re not familiar with the concept, Go Ape consists of a high ropes course that you follow through the trees. There are many obstacles, including rope bridges, tunnels, zip wires and swings that you navigate. I’ve never done anything like it before, so I was a little apprehensive.

We got kitted out with our harnesses and made our way around the training area. This gave us a chance to get to grips with our safety clips and the different types of obstacles ahead. To be honest, I found it all a bit tricky. There seemed to be so much to remember and I was starting to feel a bit nervous about what was ahead.

We made our way to the first section, which consisted of a ladder up to a rope bridge, a Tarzan swing and a small zip wire. It was meant to be an easy introduction, but I found it quite difficult. My legs felt a bit wobbly and I was seriously doubting the wisdom of doing this just a week after walking 50 miles.

One of the best things about Go Ape at Woburn is the views

However, as we worked our way around I found myself growing in confidence. As we traversed the different sections we soon got the hang of it. Each bit consisted of a ladder up into the trees, a couple of obstacles to cross and a zip wire to get back down to the ground. We soon got into the swing of it, and started to enjoy ourselves.

I’m not the best with heights, but I like to think that I acquitted myself well!

It was a hot day and it was quite a work out, luckily there was water available throughout the course.

The tunnels were deceptively difficult, especially the gap in the middle!

With some of the harder obstacles, there was an alternative route, but we only used this once. What I loved about Go Ape was the fact that we were left mostly to our own devices. We moved around as part of a larger group, but after the first section we were quite spread out. The instructors were around if you needed help, but didn’t interfere. It was difficult enough to feel like a real challenge, but we always felt safe. Here’s a little video of some of our best bits.

I was really enjoying myself and finding it quite exhilarating, but it really was quite a workout. It was a hot day and my hands were starting to get a bit sore (I must remember gloves next time) so I was happy to reach the end after a couple of hours. The course felt like just the right length and difficulty. I went home feeling like I’d achieved something, but it remained fun throughout.

I was so proud to have finished the course at Woburn Safari Park

It was such a great way to spend some time outdoors doing something different. It was a good workout, and I actually enjoyed being pushed out of my comfort zone.

Have you ever tried Go Ape? Have you got a head for heights?

We were given two complimentary tickets to try out the Treetop Adventure at Go Ape Woburn Safari Park. All opinions are my own.

We did the one at Alice Holt in Surrey (I say we it was mainly the kids). I must go up next time but we’d only got one adult ticket so my husband jumped in at the chance. I am a bit nervous of heights sometimes but my 5 year old managed it although I watched in horror a few times as his little legs stretched across the wobbly bridges. Sarah #AdventureCalling

I’ve done zip lining, but that looks way more extreme! What a fun adventure, I kind of want one in my backyard. It’s like an adult tree fun house!

Ha Ha! Got to love a high ropes course, I did Go Ape years ago and it looks so much better now. Does anyone know of any more extreme high ropes courses in the UK or in Europe? I fancy a challenge!?

I did Go Ape a few years ago. I can’t remember which one, but I do remember it being brilliant, and the leap of faith part at the end took all my nerves.

Can’t wait till Rowan is a bit bigger so I can take him.

What fun! We have one of these near to us. My partner is terrified of heights though so I’m still waiting for my girls to get a bit bigger so I dont have to it alone! Well done you. x

It’s years since I’ve done a high ropes course and I know they have a Go Ape in Snowdonia so I must check it out. Would love to take my eldest but imagine he’s a few years short of their entry requirements yet. #adventurecalling

Having done this in my childhood with an activity camp it’s something I’d love to do with my daughters when they are older. I’m unsure whether hubby would join us he’d probably do all the filming as he fears heights. #adventurecalling
