Review: Manor Farm Campsite, Norfolk

Last week we headed to Norfolk for a couple of days to recharge our batteries and give our new tent an outing. We were both so busy in the run up that it was probably one of our least organised trips ever!

We packed the morning we left, I didn’t really do much research into the area and the campsite we picked was the first one I saw online after just googling ‘Norfolk Campsites’.

This lack of preparation actually worked in our favour. Neither of us had particularly high expectations, yet it turned out to be one of our favourite ever short breaks. Everything seemed to go well. Our new tent and camping gear all worked well, Finn was an absolute star, the weather was gorgeous and the campsite was fab.

As I said, I had picked Manor Farm at random, but it turned out to be a great place to stay. I organised the booking via email and it was all very straightforward. It is worth noting that they don’t take card payments. I paid by BACS and then cash for the outstanding amount when we got there. Everyone was very friendly and helpful at all stages, which is always a good sign. It helped going mid week as that meant it was a bit quieter than usual. There was a few people around, but the pitches either side of us were empty (always a bonus!)

We camped on Marl Pit Field and took advantage of a serviced pitch with EHU. This is mainly because it’s easier to keep food and milk cold, especially useful with a toddler. If you don’t want a serviced pitch, you can camp anywhere in the field.

The toilet/shower block was clean and modern with plenty of hot water. I particularly liked the fact that the shower cubicles were very roomy with loads of space for your stuff. There was also a family shower room with toilet and sink which proved very useful for us. Finn doesn’t like showers, so it helped having two pairs of hands to get him washed quickly. There was also a laundry room and washing up sinks. As it was quiet there was only one of the blocks open in our field instead of two. It wasn’t an issue, I had to wait 5 minutes for a shower on the second day, but that’s not the end of the world.

The site is situated in East Runton. It’s about a 15-20 minute walk into the village, where there are shops, pubs and a takeaway. There is also access to the beach here. If you follow the farm track out of the back of the campsite, it’s again about a 15 minute walk to Cromer. I spent many an hour pushing Finn along the farm track getting him to sleep at night and it really was a beautiful and peaceful spot.

Our first camping trip to East Anglia was a great success and we’re looking forward to heading back soon.

Have you discovered any awesome campsites lately?
