A Walk in the Woods

A Walk in the Woods

Recently it’s been a bit busy and stressful in our house, so Luke and I were determined to really enjoy this week. Luckily, the weather has continued to be fantastic and, as I love Autumn, this has proved to be a great time to get as much walking in as possible.

We decided on Bucknell Wood, near Silverstone for a walk. It’s not too far from us, but somewhere we’ve never been before. We both took our cameras hoping to catch some glorious autumnal colours.

We took the pushchair so kept to the main path (to begin with!)

We were a little bit early for a full display of autumn colour, the leaves are just starting to turn though

We didn’t have a map with us, so I navigated via Google Maps. This is probably what led to us taking a bit of a ‘shortcut’ back to the car.

We went a bit off road on the way back

Luckily it wasn’t too muddy and it was actually great fun walking through the woods. It was also fantastic having the place pretty much to ourselves-one of the benefits of going out during the week.

I've mostly used my own photos for this post, but couldn't resist stealing one of Luke's photos of me

We have the New Forest very close to us so we often go there for walks but our closest and most regular woodland walk is the Forest of Bere. It’s looked after by the Forestry Commission so as well as well managed paths there’s also a great play area. We can always use that to coax Tin Box Tot into doing a good walk before we let her do some swinging and climbing 🙂 #countrykids

That sounds awesome, I went to the New Forest as a kid (actually I think it was Brownie pack holiday!) and would love to go back with Finn. It’s definitely on the list of future camping destinations!

Escaping to the woods is magical, we have a great woodland network in my town and this time of year it is absolutely stunning. Finn looks very cosy.

Oh Finn loves getting out and about, as long as he’s got plenty to look at he’ll be amused for hours. You’re lucky having woodland in your town, we have to travel a bit-although it’s always worth it 🙂

  • so many areas are still looking very green this autumn, I think it is the Indian summer we have been enjoying and quiet winds, one big storm and everything will change but I’m happy to keep the sun and the green for as long as possible! A beautiful looking woods, definitely on the cusp of seasonal change. Thank you for sharing with me on Country Kids.

It’ll soon change now the weather is getting cooler-although I too am really enjoying this weather, even if a part of me is excited about cosy winter nights in front of the fire!

Just got back from a run in the woods – trail 5 mins from my house. It’s my zen place – always feel so much more clear headed and calm after a walk or run in the woods. My daily dose!

You’re so lucky to have somewhere like that so close. I love the air in and around woods, it’s so clear and pure-perfect for contemplation 🙂

A lovely walk, it really is great to see all those autumnal colours out now. I especially love the vivid oranges and reds. Lovely photos of your walk and of course you can steal Luke’s photos for your post, I often steal Chris’ when he has better ones, or at least ones that I’m actually in!
Thanks so much for linking up to #Whatevertheweather 🙂 x

I love the peace and quiet when you have the woods to yourself. It really gives you a chance to slow down and you come back feeling so refreshed. I love the colours in these photos. I really love autumn colours but it’s so nice to see lots of green still. Thank you so, so much for linking this to #whatevertheweather. xx
